The day you find the person you expect to live the rest of. your life with you begin to dream of the family you'll have: how many kids, how many girls/boys, family dog/cat/bird/fish tank, when will you start, etc.
And then you find out...
THE WIFE IS EXPECTING or THE ADOPTION CAME THROUGH!!!!
Whether you started actually looking at homes, got pre approved, or never thought now would be the time, time starts to run away! While you may think it'll be impossible to be ready for the "new addition(s) (like twins, triplets, etc-like what happened to our daughter), take the time to find an agent that will fit your needs and keep you both securely grounded and on track to close on a home in time to make it yours for your "little bundle of joy".
When you find your agent, tell him/her everything going on with your changing family. The more your agent understands your wants and desires, the more she'll be able to help you decipher your actual needs and how to obtain them within the parameters of your budget. Your agent can be real specific with searches conducted so don't be afraid to be very pointed in what you envision for your family.
For example, our daughter and her husband didn't plan on buying a home right after marriage, but God decided to bless them with twins after a few months! They couldn't stay in the apartment they had just decorated for their new life together and had to get on the ball ASAP to be ready for this more complicated birth. Their agent really listened to them and also anticipated needs they didn't realize just starting out. Consequently, they had a wonderfully warm place to bring their newborn daughters to. Finding an agent that really listened resulted in a home with both the nursery and MBR on the first floor making the early days much easier for our daughter as she healed.
First, don't be afraid of "surprises" on your home search journey. Second, realize your new agent probably has been through a thing or two either professionally or personally and can be the "sounding board" for all your concerns, desires, fears, and plans. Finally, ENJOY the journey and process!! While you may be a little stressed, take time to have fun looking and planning. This is a wonderful time in a couple's life so let your agent take on the load while you continue to dream of a bright future.
