Grant and Grant Valkaria, FL, are two small communities in Brevard County, Florida. These areas were initially settled by pioneers in the late 19th century.
Grant, originally known as Grant Station, was named after President Ulysses S. Grant. The town was initially established as a railroad hub in the late 19th century and served as a stop along the Florida East Coast Railway established in the late 1800s, the brainchild of Henry Flagler, a co-founder of Standard Oil. The railroad brought new settlers to the area, and soon, the community began to grow. As the town developed, it transformed into a bustling fishing village, attracting residents and tourists alike with its picturesque waterfront and relaxed atmosphere. Over time, Grant Station became known simply as Grant, but its origins as a railroad hub remain an essential part of the town's history and identity.
As for Grant Valkaria, it was named after the Grant family, and Valkaria, an old settlement in the region, was named after an early landowner, Thomas Valentine. The area was initially settled by cattle ranchers and citrus farmers in the late 1800s. Over time, the community grew, and by the early 20th century, it had a post office, a school, and several churches. However, as the population of the region increased, the name Valkaria was eventually absorbed by the growing Grant Valkaria community allowing the original Valkaria settlement and the rich history of the region to live on.
Today, both Grant and Grant Valkaria are charming, tight-knit communities that have managed to preserve their rich history while embracing modern living. If you like rural coastal living, this area may be right for you!
